JUVEDERM is an injectable dermal filler used to reduce the
appearance of wrinkles, increase skin volume, and augment lips. JUVEDERM is a
clear gel containing hyaluronic acid (HA) that increases moisture and boosts
collagen growth in your skin. There are multiple formulations of JUVEDERM
designed for different areas of your face.
How JUVEDERM treatment is performed
JUVEDERM is a non-invasive in-office treatment that takes
about 15 minutes.
Your dermatologist will begin by applying a topical
anesthetic cream to your treatment area. Injected anesthesia may also be used,
especially for lip augmentation which can be more painful. The JUVEDERM XC
formulation contains built-in anesthetic called lidocaine to minimize pain.
Your doctor will use a fine needle to inject the JUVEDERM
gel underneath your skin in order to fill the soft tissue of the dermis or the
dense inner layer of your skin beneath the epidermis. This process adds volume
and diminishes wrinkles and folds. The amount of injections and their placement
will vary depending on your treatment.
Recovery and results
You’ll notice immediate results after your JUVEDERM
treatment, but it will take up to a week to see your final results. You may
have some redness, swelling, and mild discomfort depending on your injection locations.
Lip augmentation has more noticeable swelling and discomfort compared to facial
injections. Results can last one to two years depending on the formulation of
JUVEDERM that was used.
