ArteFill is now marketed in the U.S. under the new brand
name Bellafill.
ArteFill is a permanent injectable dermal filler used to
restore volume in your face and reduce the appearance of fine lines, deep
wrinkles, and scars. ArteFill is made of bovine collagen and microspheres made
of a plastic called PMMA that stimulate new collagen growth.
How ArteFill treatment is performed
ArteFill is a quick, non-invasive treatment performed in
your dermatologist’s office.
First your treatment area will be numbed with a topical
anesthetic, and the ArteFill will be injected into the deep, dermis layer of
your skin using a fine needle or cannula, which is like a blunt-tipped needle.
Your doctor may gently massage the injection site to help distribute the ArteFill.
Since ArteFill contains bovine collagen, your doctor will
have you take an allergy test prior to treatment.
Recovery and results
There’s no downtime after your treatment, but
you might have some mild side effects like redness, swelling, lumps, or itching
that can last a few days. You’ll see immediate results due to the collagen in ArteFill,
and over time your body produces more collagen due to the microspheres in the ArteFill
that act like a scaffolding. You can expect long-lasting results for up to five
years.
