How to Prepare for a Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light therapy, also known as either Intense Pulse Light therapy or simply as IPL, is a treatment method that is designed to remove excessive hair from particular areas of the body. If you have unusual or excessive hair growth in one or more parts of your body, IPL therapy can help to deal with the problem by targeting those areas with a concentrated light source that beams every second or so. This light actually causes the follicles to stop producing hairs and closes them shut.

Preparing for Intense Pulsed Light Therapy Treatment

There are a few important things that you'll need to do to prepare for your IPL therapy session. First of all, always follow your doctor's instructions as to what is the best method for dealing with the problem. You should plan on not exposing the area to too much sunlight before the duration of the procedure; you may be required to keep that portion of skin covered for one week or more prior to the procedure. Discontinue the use of creams with vitamin A and glycolic acid a week before your treatment.

Other Considerations

If you have any skin conditions that may contribute to the healing process or the recovery taking longer, you should plan to tell the doctor first before your initial Intense Pulsed Light therapy treatment session.

For any other concerns or questions that you may have, speak with the doctor or another IPL therapy professional in your area for additional information.
