The Juvederm treatment process takes less than an hour to perform, and individuals are usually able to return to their normal routines immediately following treatment. While you will notice the initial results of your treatment immediately following the procedure, optimal results will become more evident once any initial redness or swelling subsides.
In most cases, you can expect the results from your Juvederm filler procedure to last for six to nine months, although some treatments (most notably lip augmentation procedures) may require additional touchup treatments within two to three months to retain the best results.
Juvederm is a very well tolerated filler, and is associated with very few, minor side effects, which may include minor discomfort, swelling or redness at the site of the injection, as well as temporary bruising in the treatment area. These side effects are mild and generally subside within a few hours to a few days of treatment. In the very rare cases of allergic reaction, lumps known as granulomas may form beneath the skin. Granulomas form as a result of a reaction with the body’s own immune system, and they can be difficult to treat and to get rid of. If you have a known history of allergies or allergic reactions, your specialist may test you for sensitivity prior to treating you with the Juvederm product.
After your treatment with Juvederm, your specialist will likely advise you not to massage or rub the treatment area, to avoid spreading the material out and away from the target area. Makeup can be applied after treatment, but products containing alcohol (including toners and other astringents) should be avoided. In addition, sunscreen should be worn following treatment, and patients should avoid overexposure to the sun, as well as exposure to extremes of temperature for several weeks following their treatment.
