BOTOX ® , or botilinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein generally used in cosmetic dermatology to treat facial creases, wrinkles, brow lines and even twitching eye muscles.? Apart from this, BOTOX ® is used to treat many non-cosmetic conditions and so is used in a number of areas of the body.
Face
BOTOX ® is used primarily on the face to moderate and treat wrinkles, severe brow lines (also called glabellar lines), facial creases and eye twitching which is caused by muscle spasms.
Neck
BOTOX ® is injected into the neck to treat Torticollis and Myotonia Dystrophica. Torticollis is a condition where severe spasms of one side of the neck muscles result in the patient's neck being twisted to one side. Mytonia Dystrophica is an inherited disorder of muscles which results in involuntary twitching movements.? BOTOX ® relaxes the muscles and relieves the pain.
Underarm
Excessive perspiration or hyperhidrosis can be treated with BOTOX ® by injecting the toxin under the arms (or in the palms of soles of the feet).? The BOTOX ® works by inhibiting the nerves that control the sweat glands.
Bladder
Botox is injected under the internal lining and into the muscle wall of the bladder to reduce the sensitivity of the bladder and reduce muscular overactivity, both of which contribute to some forms of incontinence.
